Edward Edmund BAILEY arrived in Hobart Town, Van Diemen's Land in December 1821 aboard the "Minstrel" and settled in Norfolk Plains (Longford). Edward tried his hand at starting several business's before taking over the license of the inn known as the "Horse and Jockey" at Sandhill on the outskirts of Launceston. On the 9th of June 1828. Edward Bailey was married to Sarah Williams at the St John's Church of England in Launceston. On the 21st of February 1829 a son, Edward Francis, was born followed by another son John Henry who was born on the 13th of April 1831. Edward and Sarah also raised Thomas Arthur, born about 1826. Unfortunately Edward Edmund Bailey's time in Van Diemen's Land was cut short and he died a few days after renewing his publican's license in September 1832.
